RE: AC not cooling coach

To start with the Sierra like my Sandpiper are not the best insulated units on the market. But that being said unless your unit was upgraded it came with a 13.5 BTU AC. In the high humidity, parked in the direct sun, or temps 95 or higher it would struggle to keep up. If the AC is blowing cold you might try to shut the bedroom door during the day and that might help. If you have 50 amp service you could add a 2nd AC that's what I did. Or you could camp in a cooler climate. Hope this was of some help to you.

RE: Battery Charger

Had the same problem with mine. The charging system went out. I bought a charger like stated above and it worked fine. I did go ahead and change the distribution box and charger/converter on mine to bring it back to like new or better. About $325 and a few hours work. If you have a Forest River more than likely you have a Parallax http://www.parallaxpower.com/index.htm system if not see what system you have and go to there web site and down load the trouble shooting guide. This is where I ordered my replacement from seem like good people to deal with. http://www.bestconverter.com/index.html Hope this helps.

Sun Twin or Solar Comfort

Has anyone used the Sun Twin or Solar Comfort heating systems in their trailer? I am concerned about the bulb life of the heating elements. Listing to the ads it sure would beat trying to heat using propane. Just looking for any thoughts or info from someone that has been there and done that.

RE: Electric Awning

I think before I did anything drastic I would check with the dealer or Heartland/who ever made the awning. I 40 is a bumpy road but your awning should not come out like that.

RE: Converter Charger problem

Thanks everyone. Bad news for me is the trailer is one of the 1st if not the 1st 2006 off the line in May of 2005. This is a replacement unit for the 04 that Forest River so kindly decided they would replace rather that continue to try and fix. I have been in email talks with best converter and I think the way to go is up grade the system. It will cost a little extra up front but should be worth it in the long run.

Converter Charger problem

The Parallax 500 series 55 amp converter appears to be out on my trailer. I have downloaded the trouble shooting guide and everything points to a bad converter. My question is can I just replace the charging/converter part or do I have to replace the whole works distribution box and all. In the short term I bought a good float charger and have hooked it up to the battery. This charger shuts itself off when the battery is at 100% and then comes back on at about 80%. Any advise?

RE: A new direction

My son has been stationed at Mountain Home for the last 6 years. We have made many trips up to visit and traveled most of the state. I can't honestly say we didn't see anything we didn't fall in love with. Sadly for us he has come down on orders for Minot AFB in ND. So I guess we will have to visit Idaho via ND form now on. Good luck with your mom and keep up the good work.

JT Strong Arm

Has anyone mounted one of these or a similar product on there 5th wheel that has the spare tier mounted in the front. Mine has the spare mounted between the front landing gears. I don't know if it can be moved back or not but no more trailer shaking is very appealing. Thanks for any information you might have.

RE: Sierra 375QBQ

jad1124 I would think you have a problem. Contact your dealer and Forest River. Be nice and polite but tell them of your issue and that it was reported before. JMHO

RE: City Guide

Yes I have this site bookmarked. And like you every time I am out I seem to notice city campgrounds that I can't find listed anywhere. I have made a mental note of them as we go by, but I have found that the mental area I use for these has got a little rusty with age. Most of the ones I have seen as of late are nice, quite, and under $15. Over the 4th of July weekend while taking the back roads from home to Shawnee OK I found a city park in Neosho MO that looked real nice, and stayed at the Citizen Potawatomi Powwow grounds in Shawnee and had a front row seat for the fire works display. The Citizen Potawatomi campground was only $13.00 for a 50amp full hook up site.

RE: Satallite for new trailer

Been using mine on the ground for 3 years now. No one has ever tried to mess with it or take it. 1st year we used a tripod and that did fall over a few times. While visiting my son in Oklahoma last year we noticed a dish abandoned on his roof. When we went up to look I found a rectangle frame with the dish mounted in the center. This new set up rides in the back of the truck great,is easy to set up and adjust, and very stable.

RE: Non-retired full timers

This has been our dream for years. With the economy being what it is and the price of fuel driving everything out of site, we have decided that something must give. After several months of soul searching we both feel that in order to weather the storm we are selling the house and going full time now. Although we wont be retired yet if we give up the camper and truck now I don't know if we would ever be able to replace them. And we refuse to give up our dream of hooking up and moving from place to place when we feel like it.

RE: Furniture...tough one

As everyone else has stated mine split into two sections and out the door it went. I then replaced the two recliners with a euro type from Costco and the sofabed with a reclining love seat. We now have a trailer that truly only sleeps two. When we bought it the boys asked why we got one that only slept four and we told them cuz we couldn't find one that only slept two.

RE: Has anyone tried the new 115v portable air cond.

I wish I would have gone with my gut and got one instead of the 2nd roof unit. Yes they will work and do a good job of it, If you plan to use it in the PHX summers to cool your trailer I hope it's as a 2nd unit on a 50amp trailer. JMHO

RE: Tioga George ? Updated!....

I agree with both of you. I have been searching the forums and Internet since I saw the post at 6 am. This was my last resort to find out if someone knew what was going on. On his last blog post he said he would be back into LA at 2 pm yesterday.
